The Modern-Day Black Woman

We no longer matter, only our surface ever did
Lusting over our curves and hues
Fascinated with the texture of our hair
Mimicking our style, language and culture

Watching fair skin women get cornrows in their hair
Wearing faux locs and memorizing our lyrics
Deny that you copy us then claim it as your own
So aggravating to have a birthright and watch it celebrated by undeserving faces

Manipulate your features to become a twisted image of melanin goddesses
Make no statement of appreciation of our everything
While presenting a proud and offensive display of every race besides your own
Craving to submerge yourself in exotic moves, languages and food

Ignoring the women, men and children you mock and shame
Teaching young brown skin people that their features look better on you
Assuming that we should kiss your behind for stealing mine
Your copycat is faulty and disrespectful to our struggles

A fetish, you crave to be called the N' word
Desire to beat your feet, roll your neck and wear bamboo earrings
Hoping to be welcomed in a home full of brown bodies
Your whole existence is black face

Drown your tongue in ebonics and learn every handshake
Practice our dance moves and wear dashikis
You describe us like cartoon characters and end up looking that way
Exaggerated plumped up injections and surgeries

It turns you on to be like us, thrilled you can live out a fantasy
Praying that you get the full racist comments and looks
Followed around a store, because you're automatically a theif
See white women hold tight to their purse, that was probably you

We have to watch as the world laughs at the Black woman and man
Being comically illustrated internationally, the but of every joke
Everyone is praised to be us but us, yet we still worship your product
Hate being traded for a white woman or man, but only support them

Conflicting thoughts to be pro-black and marry and freedom-fighter
The struggle of attempting to uplift a nation of people who won't read
Giving into the tension and broken promises from our own
Uniting with anyone who will express admiration via obsession

Self Discovery

I wonder why isn't everyone's interest in learning more about themselves
To go into to the world so unsure of how you truly need to see it
Ignore the dark corners of your memory, locked in the room
Sitting on the floor you close your eyes and imagine a pacifier

Rocking into a rhythm of insanity, presented so well
Wrapping paper so pretty, stuffing it in your mouth
Scripted deliveries flow easily from phony lips
Tripping over yourself for approval from strangers

Caught up in the theatrics and relationship statuses
Bouncing from righteous to treacherous in the same day
No different from the poser on the other side of the screen
Bound by typed words and emojis, enticed by the memes

You have forgotten your people and denying your purpose
Discover happiness alone and you'll practically be invincible
Embrace discipline to unleash those dimples that has been hiding
Understand what is needed to obtain joy and continued progess

It was never meant to be easy, but the process is simpler than you know
Internal exploration is mandatory to evolve, grow from experience
Overcome the environment, expand your reach beyond the horizon
Steps are only made if you take them, souls bless when you feed them

Dishes

Sometimes, you just loose things
That are meaningful to you and challenge you
Things that help you to grow and be a better you
Lost in wishes, meanwhile, there's the dishes

You wish you had riches, cheers, to living lavish
Being drenched in Armani in Paris
Never examining where you are, and what resources to use
Reluctant to get off the ground in your own shoes

Beautiful weather induce delusional images of grandeur
Experiencing without budgets, get home, say screw it and act foolish
Priorities out of order, suffocating the limits of your potential
Socially stuck in a cycle of turmoil and destruction

You'll never get it, brain severely infested, media poison
Constantly repeating ridiculous dramatic scenes
Should be embarrassed, so much pride for the ratchet
Complain for better, won't work to improve what the creator gave you

Reactions foul, loud attract attention and crowds
Quick fame dies faster than eyes blink, soul sink
Searching for positive reinforcement, from any whole it spews out of
Walking right into a trap, hope your spirit won't snap

Sometimes you just loose yourself in broken promises
Meaningful lessons and opportunities fly right by you
Pleasantly distracted, missing warning signs at every turn
Mind drowning in wishes, meanwhile, there's the dishes
